Hoja de Tabaco de Fondo

In May 2021, after being postponed by a year, the 17th Venice Biennale of Architecture opened its doors having questioned the world’s architects: “How we will live together”. This question arose in the middle of a pandemic, a historical moment distinguished by uncertainty. So, how did architects respond?

The Dominican Republic participated with LiLeón’s installation “Conexión”. It demonstrated that the explanation is nearer than we think, the missing piece of the puzzle is community. The interior architecture artwork made from tobacco leafs is filled with great symbolism inspired by Lidia’s own family history, and by the Japanese Wabi-Sabi philosophy, which allows us to integrate life’s constant changes, imperfections, impermanences and evanescence. Revealing the CONEXIÓN that exists between all living beings, bringing us closer to our Mother Earth, awakening the sense of belonging and responsibility for our evolutionary process.
